Kendall Hussey brings significant health policy and strategic advocacy experience to enhance legislative and regulatory capabilities for clients in D.C. and across the country
Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated professional services firm, announced the arrival of Senior Advisor Kendall Hussey to the Firm’s Health Care industry group. With extensive experience leading clients through legislative and regulatory matters across a range of health care-related issues, Hussey’s arrival deepens the Firm’s health policy and advocacy capabilities for health care clients.
“Kendall’s experience cuts across the most pressing issues in health care, and she will be a great addition to our renowned Manatt Health team as we continue working with our clients on complex health policy and advocacy issues,” said Manatt CEO and Managing Partner Donna L. Wilson. “Kendall has proven herself to be a trusted and successful adviser and has all the qualities that set Manatt apart as we continue to counsel and help shape meaningful change for our industry-leading clients.”
Hussey works on key issues across the health care industry and advises clients on legislative and regulatory developments that may influence business interests and decisions. She assists with the research, development and implementation of legislative strategies for her clients and advocates on behalf of clients in congressional lobbying efforts, including coalitions of health care providers, medical professionals, patient advocates and other stakeholders. Hussey has helped clients navigate the complex annual federal appropriations process and has worked on and negotiated various aspects of several major health care bills in the past decade, as well as regulations that have come from them.
“Kendall has deep experience navigating the ever-changing political environment in D.C. and will provide strategic advice and actionable insights for our clients,” said Manatt Health Leader Bill Bernstein. “Her background makes her an invaluable asset to our clients as we continue to guide them through the industry’s highly complex regulatory and legislative landscape.”
Hussey has worked for U.S. Senator Richard Burr on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee, assisting the Subcommittee on Bioterrorism and Public Health Preparedness with preparation and coordination of hearings and markups, performing research on various legislative projects, and meeting with constituents and stakeholders on public health policy issues. She has prepared Congressional hearings and roundtables with U.S. Senators, federal and state government officials, and private and public health representatives to discuss biodefense and public health preparedness issues, as well as other public health legislation. Prior to her work in the Senate, she worked at a Washington-based government relations firm that assists trade associations, companies, cities and universities in their dealings with the federal government.
“Manatt’s unique legal and consulting model puts the client first, which is key since clients rarely face just legal or business issues,” said Hussey. “I’m truly looking forward to joining this talented team of lawyers, consultants and advisers as we support clients through the Firm’s matrixed professional services approach and help them stay ahead of the evolving legislative and regulatory developments.”
