Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated professional services firm, announced today that Manatt Health Counsel Alice B. Leiter has joined in its Washington, D.C., office. Leiter adds to the Firm’s deep bench in digital health and arrives from Executives for Health Innovation (eHI), where she helped develop a privacy framework to govern health data not covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
“Our digital and regulatory capabilities span our entire platform, and we are always focused on augmenting our teams with exceptional professionals who have experience leading and implementing complex initiatives that foster innovation and make compliance easier for our clients,” said Donna L. Wilson, CEO and Managing Partner of Manatt. “Alice embodies this as seen through her work pioneering a privacy framework and working hand in glove with the health care industry and policymakers alike. We are thrilled for her to join.”
At Manatt, Leiter will advise academic medical centers, plans, providers and information technology companies on a wide range of compliance and policy issues related to non-HIPAA-covered data and surrounding state privacy laws. Her practice focuses on health information privacy, new data use cases, data policy and health regulatory issues.
“New policies and disruptive technologies continue to transform our nation’s health care system, with digital health concerns often front and center,” said Manatt Health Leader Bill Bernstein. “Alice’s deep experience serving as both a lawyer and policy adviser to leading players in the health care policy and regulatory spaces complements Manatt’s unique legal and consulting model and makes her a wonderful fit for our fast-growing digital health and privacy practices.”
“Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working alongside a number of Manatt professionals, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate more closely with such a talented team of lawyers and consultants as we help our clients operating at the intersection of health care, technology and the law,” said Leiter.
Leiter is the latest addition to Manatt Health’s rapidly growing roster of health care legal and business consulting professionals, which includes recent arrivals Cynthia Bero, Zoe Barnard, Tara R. Straw, Rachel L. Sher, Dr. Christina Jenkins and Claudia Page.
Leiter earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. in human biology—with a minor in history— from Stanford University, where she served as editor-in-chief of The Stanford Daily.
