Manatt Health Senior Advisor Tara Straw spoke with InsideHealthPolicy about how CMS is implementing and informing consumers about the new Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage opportunities after the administration finalized a rule fixing the “family glitch.”
The article explained how this new rule addresses the Obama-era rule, which blocked families from getting subsidized ACA coverage under certain circumstances. As such, CMS is advising all consumers to check their Marketplace eligibility on HealthCare.gov or their State-based Marketplace.
As families consider this new opportunity, Straw notes that, “It is particularly critical that families who are eligible for the subsidized ACA coverage understand any potential trade-offs that come with splitting their coverage between the employer and individual markets. Consumers need to fully grasp the overall costs of all plans, including the premiums, deductibles and cost-sharing maximums.”
