Law360 covered federal prosecutors’ decision to forgo challenging a request by Manatt’s client Eagle Eyes Traffic Industrial Co. Ltd., a Taiwanese auto lights manufacturer, to pay a significantly reduced fine after it offered substantial assistance to authorities that helped unravel a scheme involving the company to fix prices on aftermarket auto lights.
Eagle Eyes faces a criminal fine of between $28 million and $56 million and its U.S. distributor E-Lite, which is also a client of Manatt, faces a fine of between $8 million and $16 million. Prosecutors said they will not contest the companies' request to pay a reduced $5 million fine payable in multiple installments over five years, without interest.
The case is U.S. v. Eagle Eyes Traffic Industrial Co. Ltd. et al., in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Eagle Eyes and E-Lite are scheduled to be sentenced by on Oct. 16.
