Appellate Crash: What We'd Miss

In his latest column for Daily Journal, Manatt Appellate Partner Benjamin Shatz explored the user-friendly interface of the recently revamped California appellate court websites.   

In the article, Shatz covered the vast resources the appellate websites provide, including information about the courts, justices and recent decisions as well as features such as live-streamed oral arguments and links to important forms, rules and procedures. While all of these electronic services are incredibly useful, Shatz noted that “none of them are truly essential.” Before appellate practice used the Internet, “Information and documents flowed via phone calls, mail, and messenger services, and these methods are what courts have had to resort to when their systems crash,” he wrote.
