Libby, Wilson Among L.A.'s Top White Collar/Cyber Crime Lawyers

Most Influential Lawyers: White Collar and Cyber Crime
– Los Angeles Business Journal

In a special supplement published on July 27, 2015, the Los Angeles Business Journal recognized Manatt's John Libby, co-chair of the firm's Corporate Investigations and White Collar Defense practice, and Donna Wilson, co-chair of the firm's Privacy and Data Security practice, as two of the most influential white collar and cyber crime lawyers in Los Angeles. Libby and Wilson are two of only 27 to be named to the list, which profiles "stellar attorneys" in the region who specialize in white collar and/or cyber crime law.

The Los Angeles Business Journal reports that having the right attorney who specializes in combating white collar crime and cyber issues can be one of the most crucial decisions an organization can make. A seasoned lawyer can walk a business through white collar crime and cyber challenges, and help steer an organization in the direction of the best and safest possible results.

In its profile of Libby, the publication notes that he has a proven track record of success in defending business entities in high-stakes criminal investigations and prosecutions. Having served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles, Libby is a greatly experienced trial lawyer who is uniquely positioned to advise and represent clients in litigating complex disputes with the government and private parties through trial and appeal. Libby recently led an internal investigation on behalf of the board of directors of a state chartered bank, in which he continues to serve as counsel to the board in connection with several ongoing federal investigations.

The Los Angeles Business Journal profiled Wilson's work counseling and defending clients with respect to privacy/data security and other consumer protection matters. A tenacious, non-linear, practical strategist, her experience as a trial lawyer informs her approach to client advisory services, litigation and settlements. Wilson recently represented an insurance company in its response to a challenging information security incident involving the theft of sensitive personal information, and she successfully represented an e-commerce company in a data security incident involving unique third-party issues related to Payment Card Industry compliance.
