The Internet of Things and Financial Services: Consumer-Facing Benefits and Risks

Donna L. Wilson

CEO and Managing Partner, Co-Leader, Privacy and Data Security

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the interconnection of computing devices embedded in everyday objects that touch every industry, including the financial services industry. With increased connectivity comes an increase in the risk of becoming a target of criminals and foreign governments, as well as an increase in the risks associated with greater use of customer data.

Manatt hosted a complimentary webinar, "Financial Services, Technology and the Internet of Things: The Consumer-Facing Benefits and Risks," in which attorneys from our financial services and privacy and data security groups provided an overview of what is happening in the business of financial services and consumer-facing technology, reviewed the potentially applicable statutes and regulations, and highlighted hot-button issues and practical pointers for addressing and mitigating potential risks.

Featured speakers were:
Richard Gottlieb, Co-Chair, Financial Services Group
Donna Wilson, Co-Chair, Financial Services Group, and Chair, Privacy and Data Security
