ManattJones CEO Sworn in as Member of Homeland Security Advisory Council
May 24, 2012 – Manatt's Ambassador James R. Jones, a partner and Chairman & CEO of ManattJones Global Strategies, LLC, was sworn in by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on May 24, 2012, to serve as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC), a bipartisan advisory board of leaders from state and local government, first-responder communities, the private sector and academia.
HSAC is chaired by Judge William Webster, former Director of the CIA and FBI, and William Bratten, former Police Commissioner of New York City and Los Angeles. The Council examines issues related to homeland security and makes policy recommendations to Secretary Napolitano in such areas as cybersecurity and border security and efficiency.
In 2009 Ambassador Jones, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 1993 to 1997, was nominated by Secretary Napolitano to serve as co-chair of the HSAC Southwest Border Task Force. The group's primary focus was to ensure rigorous inspections processes at ports of entry while facilitating commerce and to assess the practical consequences of border violence and the Department of Homeland Security's response in communities along the Southwest border. The group made several recommendations to Secretary Napolitano regarding these issues, some of which are now being implemented.
