Manatt Partner Quoted in Chronicle of Philanthropy Cover Story
“Charitable Deduction Under Scrutiny,”
Chronicle of Philanthropy
November 28, 2010 - Jill S. Dodd, a partner in Manatt’s Family Wealth Transfer Planning and Trust & Estate Administration Practice Group and its Nonprofit Practice Group, discusses the imperiled federal charitable tax deduction in the Nov. 28 issue of the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
The publication reports that Washington is under growing pressure to restrain the budget deficit, which has led to several proposals that would either limit or end the deductions.
Dodd weighed in on the impact that implementation of some of the more draconian proposals would have on charitable giving.
"I work with donors all the time on complex philanthropic gifts in which typically the income-tax deduction is a motivating factor," Dodd told the Chronicle of Philanthropy. She said cutting the tax incentive could, for example, diminish gifts to community foundations, Jewish federations, and universities.
