    Profile

    Shari Wollman is a partner in the Los Angeles office and Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property practice.  She focuses on intellectual property, entertainment, antitrust and media litigation, and represents leading computer and multimedia software publishers, computer games publishers, television stations and networks, motion picture studios, apparel manufacturers, telecommunications companies, patent holders, and numerous celebrities.  She litigates copyright, trademark and patent infringement actions, trade secrets claims, defamation, First Amendment and right of publicity actions, internet and domain name disputes, cyberpiracy and piracy actions, antitrust and contract claims.   

    Ms. Wollman counsels clients with respect to intellectual property issues, brand and portfolio management, supervises the prosecution of trademark applications, and represents clients in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and internet dispute resolution proceedings. She has enforced copyrights in fictional characters, communications and computer software and published works, and has protected trademarks for a wide range of domestic and international industries and celebrities. She has obtained numerous injunctions, seizure orders and pre-judgment asset freezes, and has coordinated multi-site raids with law enforcement officials to seize counterfeit merchandise, including computer software and hardware, videocassettes, computer games, apparel and jewelry.  

    Ms. Wollman also practices antitrust law, and has defended clients in lawsuits and class actions involving the Sherman, Clayton and Cartwright Acts.

    Published Decisions

    • Siniouguine v. Mediachase, Ltd., 2012 WL 2317364 (C.D. Cal. 2012), granting summary judgment on behalf of computer software publisher in a copyright ownership dispute involving  the "work made for hire" doctrine and the enforceability of "results and proceeds" clauses in employment contracts.
    •  Aguilar v. Atlantic Richfield Co., 25 Cal. 4th 826 (2001), affirming summary judgment in a precedent-setting decision regarding antitrust conspiracy and summary judgment standards in California.
    • Microsoft Corp. v. BEC Computer Co., Inc., 818 F. Supp. 1313 (C.D. Ca. 1992), granting a motion to dismiss in an important decision limiting application of the Sherman and Clayton Acts and the copyright misuse defense.

    • Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange, Inc. and Roberts Wholesale Body Parts, Inc. vs. Jui Li Enterprise Company, Ltd., et al., Case No. 2:09-CV-00852-LA (E.D. Wisc.), representing defendant in a class action alleging price fixing under Section 1 of the Sherman Act as well as in the related indirect purchaser class action.
    •  Heliae Development LLC v. Karl Seitz, Case No. 8:12-cv-00110 (C.D. Cal.), represented plaintiff in cybersquatting case.
    • Imax Corporation v. Sanborn Theatres, Inc.,  Case No. 2:09-cv-08755 (C.D. Cal.), represented Imax in breach of contract action involving exhibitor agreements.
    • Williams v. Clayton, et al., Case No. 0:04-cv-05116 (D. Minn.), represented Robin Williams in right of publicity suit.
    • Jada Toys Inc. v. Mattel Inc., Case No. 2:04-cv-02755 (C.D. Cal), represented Mattel in trademark infringement action; obtained summary judgment.
    • Motorola Inc. v. Pick et al., Case No. 2:04-cv-02655 (C.D. Cal.), represented plaintiff Motorola in copyright and trademark infringement suit; obtained seven figure jury trial verdict.
    • Survivor Productions, et al. v. Fox Broadcasting Co. et al., Case No. 2:01-cv-03234 (C.D. Cal.), represented defendant in copyright infringement suit involving format rights to the Survivor reality series. 
    • Laguna Beach House v. Sunset Beach House, et al., Case No. 8:98-cv-00879 (C.D. Cal Oct 14, 1998), represented defendant in trademark suit involving the geographic scope of common law trademark rights; obtained summary judgment.
